Asian Youth Orchestra - Hong Kong

To help fulfill the BWS's mission of providing training and educational opportunities to woodwind students, BWS President Matthew Ruggiero has traveled to Asia for twenty summers to help train woodwind players of the Asian Youth Orchestra. Players of the orchestra are chosen from about ten Asian countries through a process of challenging auditions. They are then assembled in an Asian city for three weeks of intensive rehearsals and then tour throughout Asia for an additioal three weeks. The AYO has also toured the US and Europe. Most frequently the rehearsal site has been the Academy of Performing Arts in Hong Kong, but other cities such as Kumamoto, Japan; Kuala Lumpur, Mayasia; Singapore; and Crans-Montana, Switzwerland have also hosted the AYO rehearsal camp.
