Double Reed Day 2014

On Sunday, October 5, 2014, over one hundred oboists and bassoonists gathered at New England Conservatory for the Boston Double Reed Day to attend masterclasses, a workshop, a recital, and to visit with double reed vendors. Masterclasses were presented by Boston Symphony Orchestra principals, Richard Svoboda, bassoon and John Ferrillo, oboe. Barbara LaFitte, principal oboist of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, presented a workshop entitled, "Circular Breathing Demystified." Double Reed vendors from throughout the United States exhibited and sold their instruments, sheet music, and double reed products. The recital included performances by the Boston Wind Octet, an NEC student bassoon ensemble, as well as John Ferrillo and Richard Svoboda, joined by pianist Damien Francoeur-Krzyzek. The trio of Ferrillo, Svoboda, and Francoeur-Krzyzek performed the Poulenc Trio for Piano, Oboe and Bassoon, as well as a new work by Boston composer, Andrew List, dedicated to Boston Woodwind Society founder, Matthew Ruggiero, entitled Journey Toward the Eternal Flame. If you are interested in participating in a concurrent premiere project of Journey Toward the Eternal Flame, please contact us via our website or Facebook page. More photos are posted at Facebook.
