Sectional Workshops

Boston Woodwind Society provides funds that allow leading musicians, including members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's woodwind artists, to lead sectional rehearsals and master classes for young woodwind players of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. Young players are thrilled to be honing their skills under the guidance of professional musicians who are eager to share their musical wisdom.

Double Reed Days

Every April hordes of people crowd into Boston for an annual event that has become more and more popular with each passing year. No, not the Boston Marathon, although that event has certainly held its own. We mean BWS's Double Reed Day. That's when woodwind students, teachers, performers and aficionados gather to enjoy the performances and master classes of some of the Boston Symphony's leading woodwind musicians. Pictured here from left to right are Richard Ranti, associate principal of the Boston Symphony; guest artist Patricia Rogers, principal bassoon of the Metropolitan Opera; Laura Ahlbeck, principal oboe of the Boston Pops/Esplanade Orchestra; John Ferrillo, principal oboe of the Boston Symphony; and Robert Sheena, BSO's solo English horn.
